Anniversary Trip Three: Seaside, Florida

Meet Carly.

What are your favorite activities?
I play guitar, run cross country, do yoga, and I’m interested in photography. I also love hanging out with friends and being outdoors (hiking, biking, skiing, etc.)

Do you volunteer your time anywhere?
I’ve volunteered at the Lord’s Pantry, done community service for After School Achievers at Spring Mill Elementary, and I went on a mission trip to Honduras this past summer.

What do you do on a typical night out with friends?
I’m not sure if there is a “typical” for my friends and I. We spend a lot of time around a bonfire, go to football games (although I’m usually dragged to those), go to dinner, or go to concerts.

What type of music makes you get up and dance?
I love music and listen to a pretty wide variety of it. I listen to a lot more classic rock than the average teenager and I love reggae.

Who is your favorite band/music artist?
I always say that The Rolling Stones are my favorite band, but when it comes to favorite artists, there are just too many favorites to choose from.

What movie makes you happy?
The Lion King

What movie makes you cry?
I just saw The Help and I didn’t actually cry but I think I would have if I was a cryer. It was fantastic, a tear-jerker in the best way.

What TV show are you addicted to?
Modern Family, Biggest Loser!

Do you have a book you could read over and over?
Hmmmm… I don’t think so.

What food does your family cook that you will miss when you go to college?
My dad makes really great jambalaya and my mom makes great chili – I think those will be the two I’ll miss the most.

When you were little, what did you dream of being when you grew up?
I always thought I would be a writer. I wrote and “published” tons of books when I was in grade school.

Who are your role models and why?
I don’t have any single person whom I aspire to be like, but I admire certain qualities from many different people (too many to list here, but many of my friends and family members, people who are important to me).

What are your hopes/plans for the future?
I want to go either to Santa Clara University or Gonzaga University and major in journalism with a minor in Spanish. I want to travel a lot, do service work around the world, and maybe teach ESL in a Spanish-speaking country for a year or so.

What do you want people to remember about you when they look back on your senior year?
I just want people to remember me as a genuinely good person, friendly, and fun to be around.

What kind of impact do you want to make on the world?
I’m not sure what type of impact I’ll have on the world; the best I can do is live my life as well as I can and love everyone I meet.

Claire decided to bring along some of her friends from her soccer team for her 2013 Model Friends Session! What a fun idea! We attempted to beat a storm coming in and just got a little wet at the end. The girls were such great sports and laughed a ton.

Ali could take any situation and make it super fun. During her session we stepped into a nest of ticks – gross! She handled it so well and was laughing about it! She has the best personality and you’ll totally see it in her answers and photos – look at the last two photos. Ali, that happy-go-lucky side of you will take you so far!

What activities are you involved with at school or outside of school?
Mock Trial, Drama, Oh and I’m Ferris Bueller so that takes up a lot of time.

Do you volunteer your time anywhere?
I teach ESL (now paid position) to kindergarteners, Agape Therapeutic Riding Center, going to be a camp Counselor this summer.

What do you do on a typical night out with friends?
Well last night we built a campfire and ate smores. Every other Friday night we dress up and go downtown to swing dance. Depending on the season, I attend football, soccer, lax, or basketball games. Eat and watch Phineas and Ferb or the Muppets (that’s usually with Holyn) and flying kites.

What type of music makes you get up and dance?
If I’m with my friends I will always dance but, I do think 80′s, 90′s, Rock, pop is good for dancing. I know A LOT of 80′s, it’s usually what Jessie or Joy decide we are dancing to. Classic Disney. Oh and swing. Yea everything.

Who is your favorite band/music artist?
I can’t even fathom answering that one. I’m not big on JBeiber, Celo Green, Black Eyed Peas, Blondie, Techno. I really like rock from the 80′s, Billy Joel, Goo Goo Dolls, Ben Folds, John Butler Trio, Dexy’s Midnight Runners, Karmin’s Rap. Oh and I’m secretly in love with Celtic.

What movie makes you happy? What movie makes you cry?
Happy – Lion King (Childhood addiction) / Cry – Depends when I watch them

What TV show are you addicted to?
PSYCH

Do you have a book you could read over and over?
I read a lot, but I don’t re-read.

What food does your family cook that you will miss when you go to college?
Spaghetti and meatballs.

When you were little, what did you dream of being when you grew up?
A dog or a queen.

Who are your role models and why?
Jesus because he was radical and Gandhi because he took a new approach and of course my mom and dad (she’s watching me type).

What are your hopes/plans for the future?
To pass school, live life and die with my boots on.

What do you want people to remember about you when they look back on your senior year?
The fact that as a class we were looking out for the people in the grades below us.

What kind of impact do you want to make on the world?
Ask God.


Awhile back ago I ordered some homemade marshmallows from Whimsy&Spice for Pat’s Father’s Day gift. We made chocolatey smores with their chocolate marshmallows and drank homemade chai with the cardamom marshmallows which were to die for! It’s the first time having food on Such Great Find but I thought this shop was perfect as the first.

I have had the pleasure of getting to know Claire these past couple of years and she is beyond sweet and one of the most caring people you will meet. I went on a mission trip to Guatemala a few summers ago with the Timmy Foundation. Sometimes I volunteer and help my mom at IWIN, a foundation for women with breast cancer, but I don’t volunteer anywhere on the regular.

What do you do on a typical night out with friends?
Dinner and a movie or hanging out at one of their houses.

When I was little I wanted to be a meteorologist on the Today Show like Al Roker.

Who are your role models and why?
My mom is my biggest role model. She always has the best lessons to teach and keeps me grounded.

What are your hopes/plans for the future?
I am attending University of Missouri next year and I am majoring in business and minoring in fashion. I hope to work one day in the corporate offices of Jimmy Choo or another couture fashion company.

What do you want people to remember about you when they look back on your senior year?
Someone who was nice and positively impacted them.

What kind of impact do you want to make on the world?
A lasting impact.

My parents because they do so much for me and even when times have been tough, they have never denied me an opportunity and worked as hard as they could to give my siblings and I everything we wanted. My mom has shown me how to be strong in the toughest situations.

What are your hopes/plans for the future?
Graduate college as a nurse and get married and start a family.

What do you want people to remember about you when they look back on your senior year?
Happy girl, hard working, easy going.
What kind of impact do you want to make on the world?
As a nurse, I want to be able to have a positive effect on at least one person so that they don’t have to suffer.
Have I mentioned how much I love jewelery before? It’s funny though, I am not the diamonds, fancy jewelery loving type of girl. But when it comes to unique, artsy pieces, especially handmade, I can’t get enough. I ran into Senobar and love the metalwork and uniqueness of each piece. Here’s some of my favorites.
